UK Phone Directories

Published by phonedirectory, on February 27th, 2010, in the categories: Uncategorized

The UK phone directory is also known as the National Telephone Numbering Plan and is regulated by UK Government Office of Communication

Before starting talking about UK phone directory, I must mention that if you want to make a call from outside UK you must know the country code and the international call prefix. The international code prefix is 00 and the country code for UK is 44. All national numbers have 9 or 10 digits and all mobiles phones have a 10 digit number.

Area codes in UK are made of 2 up to 5 digits. Region with shorter area codes (large cities) permit the allocation of more telephone numbers because the private number has more digits, this situation is backward for small towns where the area code has more digits.

As an example, the code for London (the most populated town in UK) is 020, for Portsmouth the area code is 023 and for Cardiff is 029.

You see that areas codes are starting with zero. The prefix “0” must be dialed is you are making the call within UK, and if you are making the call from the same area is no need to dial the area codes. When you are making the call from outside UK you must not dial the “0” prefix.

As a short example if you want to call your friend that is living in London and you are not in UK you must dial 00 44 20 xxxxxxx, where xxxxxxx represent his telephone number, but if you are in Time Square and you want to make a surprise to him that you are in London and you want to meet him dial just his telephone number from a public telephone.

In addition, if you know the friend address or name you can access a web phone directory as one below.

http://www.ukphonebook.com/. These phone directories can be free of charge (with a small chance to find what you need), or like most of them you need to pay a small tax.

You can identify UK mobile telephone numbers after the prefix that now is 075xx, 077xx, 078xx, 079xx.

I had put below a web page that has all the area codes from UK.

UK phone directory contain also the two emergency numbers used, the 999 (traditional emergency number) and 112 that is a European Union standard and can be used in all EU states. This two numbers can put you in contact with police, fire service, ambulance, mountain rescue or coastguard.

Calling from or to UK is pretty much the same as in any country, so do not let yourself  numb by area codes, when to use them or not, when to dial “0” prefix, just enjoy calling your friends.

German Phone Directory

Published by phonedirectory, on February 27th, 2010, in the categories: By Location

Before starting talking about german phone directory, I must mention that if you want to make a call from outside Germany you must know the country code and the international call prefix. The international code prefix is 00 and the country code for Germany is 49, as you can see on the picture below.

In the german phone directory there are no standards regarding area code, is good to know that larger towns have shorter area codes this is because the telecom company must release as many numbers as possible. Shorter towns have the area code up to five digits, because the population number is small and is no need for a big collection of numbers to be released. Regarding the private number, this is made from 7 or 8 digits for the big towns and 3 or 4 digits for smaller towns.

As an example, the area code for Berlin is 30, or for Hamburg is 40 and so on.

For you to have a better view I attached a map with area codes for german regions.

You can see on the map that area code 01 is not used, because it is for special numbers as mobiles (for T-Mobile, Vodafone, O2 Germany, E-Plus etc clients) or as international virtual private numbers (IVPN).

On the map, you see that areas codes are starting with 0 and then the area code. The prefix “0” must be dialed is you are making the call within Germany, and if you are making the call from the same area is no need to dial the area codes. When you are making the call from outside Germany you must not dial the “0” prefix.

As a short example if you want to call your friend that is living in Hamburg you must dial 00 49 40 xxxxxxx, where xxxxxxx represent his telephone number. If your friend is living in a small village Tutow you must dial 00 49 39999 xxx, where 39999 is the area code made from five digits and xxx is his telephone number.

For you security if you want to make a trip to Germany is best to know also the emergency numbers, which are 110 for the police and 112 for fire and ambulance.

In Deutschland, do not expect that from the other part of the line to receive a Good morning or Guten morgen, they usually identify themselves first. Also for a foreign that is making a call in Germany can be a little tricky, because you can be confronted with recorded messages as: Kein Anschluss unter dieser Nummber = This number is unavailable;  Bitte warten Sie, sie werden in Kürze verbunden = Please wait, you will be connected shortly; Bitte versuchen Sie es später noch einmal = Please try again later etc.

Calling from or to Germany is pretty much the same as in any country, so do not let yourself  numb by area codes, when to use them or not, when to dial “0” prefix.

Las Vegas Phone Directory

Published by phonedirectory, on February 25th, 2010, in the categories: By Location, Useful Info, directories

Las Vegas is the number one city from US worldwide known as the major gambling and associated entertainment, resort, fine dining and shopping center. Whether you plan a trip to Las Vegas or you live in there are moments when you would like to call a certain person or to know the owner of a certain number, then you need a phone directory. A good thing on the internet is that there is not just a single Las Vegas phone directory.

The downside of this is that you might get confused when choosing which one to use. The rule of thumb is that the best is the one who can return usable results for free or at the lowest price. First start searching for free what you are looking for. Many of the free directories can do a pretty good job, but there is a bad thing about them. These ones might have an old database that is updated very rarely and as you know people change their phone provider quite frequently when trying to find a good calling plan.

Just think about last time a telemarketer called you to present a good deal if you change your calling plan to their company. Not even paid directories can’t keep up with the movement of communication market, only phone companies have the newest data about their clients.

Here are just some of the useful sites   l http://www.isleuth.com/lasvegasphone.htm, http://las_vegas.iaf.net/white_pages_city/38168.html, http://www.dexknows.com/geo/c-las_vegas-nv/, http://www.phonenumber.com/phone-book/North_Las_Vegas-NV/, http://www.visitlasvegas.com/vegas/index.jsp, http://lasvegas.findlinks.com/ to find addresses, phone numbers or people in Las Vegas.

Online phone directories. Landline customers can ask to exclude their phone number from listing after paying a small fee that ranges from $0.80 to $1.50.  Cell phone number can’t be included in a "Your Listing Not Published" service because every cell phone company has an independent database. Due to public debate and the strong opposition led by consumer protection organization and privacy concerns cell phone numbers are not released into a 411 type directory. Nevertheless paid directories can include up to 80% from the cell phone numbers available.

Phone books have been around from the first landline phones and still exist but internet technology have made them obsolete in some cases. You can't search just in several seconds thousand of names and addresses in a normal phone book because this will take you lots of time just by skipping trough the pages. The internet is growing everyday sites can disappear or appear in split seconds. Phone directories are not protected from going to oblivion if they don't provide good results to their customers. All phone directories that you find are in the first position because they provide good results to customers and are indexing more and more records everyday to meet their visitors expectations.

Another way to find phone numbers or addresses from Las Vegas is to use a search engine and type the number or the name you are looking for. If you are searching for information about a business you can get lucky and find their website and from there you can go to contact page and talk to their stuff. When searching for people you can also use search engines and use people search operators.

Anchorage phone book directory are so easy to access with present day technology. Think about how could you find a phone number or a phone owner without internet? You had do search a printed phonebook or to call phonebook service of any phone company. If you had to do that you will give up soon because of the fact you couldn’t find easily what you were looking.

Now all you have to do is to open your computer and start browsing the internet to find anything you would like. Let’s get back to phone numbers, because that’s the purpose of phone books. That might be in the case of a standard phone book that sits on your bookshelf. Online phone directories can perform cross reference search. Can give you more information than one could cram in a book.

You can find the owner of a certain phone number, you can find his address and also other publicly available information about that person such as criminal record, work experience and others. Don’t get too excited thinking that you are a sort of secret agent. All this information is available to you because is public and is not regulated by governmental lows. Sensitive data like bank accounts and others are protected and not available and is illegal to try to access them. Anyway you don’t use a phone book to find secret information you use it to find obvious information to call a person or to know who called you and you missed to answer.

Anchorage phone book directory such http://acsyellowpages.dirxion.com/anchorage_phone_book.asp, http://anchorage.areaconnect.com/, http://anchorage.iaf.net/white_pages_city/42671.html, http://www.phonenumber.com/phone-book/Anchorage-AK/, http://phones.whitepages.com/907-345 can provide you the exact information you may need name of the owner of a number, address, map directions to its address or in the case you know the name of a person you can find his phone number or numbers if he has more than one, and when it comes to cell phone there are at least 2 cell phone numbers in a family. Other information you can get from this sites are about businesses (address, phone number, type of activity in some cases you can also get working hours).

Another great resource for finding Anchorage phone numbers are search engines who index billions of pages every day. All you have to do is to set up your search engine to do a look up on another area than you live in, if you live in Anchorage you can leave it as it is because you will get results according to your IP (computer) location. After this tweaking you can start searching for phone numbers or people.

One operator that might come in handy using Google is phonebook: plus the next combination to find what are you looking for: phone number, including area code; first name (or first initial), last name, area code; first name (or first initial), last name, state (Alaska); first name (or first initial), last name, zip code; first name (or first initial), last name, city (Anchorage) (state Alaska is optional) You get the idea! For other search engines you need to searh for ("search engine name" advanced search operator)  to find the particular procedure for that search engine.

Telus Phone Directory For Alberta

Published by phonedirectory, on February 23rd, 2010, in the categories: By Location, Useful Info, directories

Searching the internet is what you do every day or at least once a week to find different information. When you need to search for a Telus phone number you have to search for Telus phone directory for Alberta for example. You will see that a reverse lookup for a phone number is not something different than searching for weather forecast or any other thing you search on the internet.

Of course you don’t search for a phone number on a weather site unless is their phone number. You use your everyday search engine, type the phone number and you check the results returned by search engine. The information is available to search engines trough their web spider after indexing all the available sites at one moment. People use their phone number on the internet as in real life. Many people use their phone number on blogs, forums, social networking sites, job offering sites, classifieds and other sites that require a phone number but don’t have a privacy policy.

There are many free directories that have a limited amount of phone numbers in their database, after all only Telus can have the most up to date database because clients can give up on Telus offers or can join Telus because of their good offers on a daily basis. You can’t find a phone number that is released in the same day that you received a call from it. After all these are very rare cases when a company or a person that has received a new phone numbers will start to call in the same day without letting the people at the other end of the line know their new number.

Think at the moment you have received your new cell phone or landline number and you have started to call your friends and relatives to tell them that from that moment they can contact you using the new number. Maybe you haven’t found them in the moment of the call but you have left a message on their answering machine, or you have sent an SMS. Companies start to publish their phone number for their customers.

Let’s use a little private investigator technique by searching for Telus phone directory and start for Alberta. You will get lots of sites that can return a good result or might imply this. You don’t know yet before you try them. Do not pay anything before you see a result. In the case of paid directories you get a trial search and after you see that the number searched by you returns a name at least you can pay to see all the information available. Paid phone lookup directories can give extended results like owner name, addresses, criminal record, and other useful information.

Here are some sites that can offer a free reverse phone number lookup http://www.mytelus.com/phonebook/display.do , http://www.albertaphonedirectory.ca/. Let’s not overlook the possibility to search for the phone number of a person as you search in a classic phone book. Using the internet is faster than using lots of printed phone book. Let’s say you have an old friend that you knew lived in a town but moved in other town after a while and you have not kept in touch with him for some time,  you could enter an online phone directory and in a few minutes you can check if your friend lives in different towns until you find the right one.
