Canada Phone Directory

Canada is a state situated in the north of the American continent, and it is the second largest country in the world after Russia. It has three sides in the neighborhood of the oceans, and only one inhabited neighbor, the United States of America.

Canada was founded merging British and French colonies, so the Canada phone directory is very colorful and contains both English and French names. Canada gained peacefully its independence and is now an independent state that works as constitutional monarchy and is reined by the queen of England, Elisabeth the second, represented by the governor of Canada.

Canada proclaims itself as a bilingual and multicultural state due to its two main ethnic groups, which can not be named minorities: the French and the English. Both of them are very important for the Canada’s diversity, and the country could not have reached this point without any of them. Both of the languages, French and English are the official languages of Canada, and the government adopted a position which favors both cultural communities, not just one. In fact, Canadians are very proud of this duplicity and consider that it is part of their national identity.

Canada’s population is mainly French or British, but there are important Irish, Scottish and German communities, which, along with the Chinese community that is the biggest of all, add a few foreign names to the Canada phone directory. Most of the French live in the province of Québec, and there are a lot of discussions regarding the fact that they wanted to gain independence and separate from the rest of Canada.

Both British and French are official languages and can be used in government affairs, but French has fewer native speakers here, so there was the need of government protection so that this language will be still learned in schools and used officially. Despite the fact that the country is considered bilingual and that it is compulsory that you know either French or English in order to establish to Canada, the percentage of the people that know French and choose to use this language is smaller every day.

This is a pity, because this is part of Canada’s charm and cultural heritage remained from the fathers of this beautiful country. Eighty five percent of the French speakers live in the province of Québec, and the government here does not encourage the use of English for any purpose whatsoever. This is the state where the only official language is considered French, opposite to the other states which pretend that the only language spoken in Canada is English.

Hopefully they would come to an ending to this stupid quarrel, and realize that both of the languages are important for their future and for the future of Canada’s history.
