Indianapolis Phone Directory

Indianapolis is Indiana’s largest city and the most populous state capital east of the Mississippi River. Its’ nickname is Indy and it is the 14th largest city in the United States of America.

I have always wanted to visit Indianapolis as I am a great race car fan but sadly I never got around to doing it. Indianapolis is famous all over the world for the largest international sporting event that it houses. I mean, you won’t find in the Indianapolis phone directory names of famous race care drivers, but I am sure that visiting the tracks, or even better attending an Indy 500, would be extremely exciting.

Because of the sporting events held here and due to the great landscapes of the city, Indianapolis’s economy relies a lot on tourism. Every year, many tourists came here on vacation or for the Indy 500. Hopefully one day I will also be able to do this. There’s nothing I would like more than watching an Indy 500.That is if you can use the term watching, because at the speed those boys are going, the appropriate term would probably be glancing.

You may not know it but Indianapolis is also called “The Racing Capital of the World”. I wonder how many people listed in the Indianapolis phone directory have received speeding tickets. Being a police officer in the city of Indianapolis must be a busy job especially surrounding the date of the Indy 500.

And it is perfectly understandable I think. I mean, come on, after you have seen the drivers on the speeding trace on the move, would you still feel like driving around town according to the legal speed limit? I for one do no think so. I personally would have a lot of trouble doing that.

The Indy 500, as it is called, is definitely the highlight of European and American race community. Just in 2009, the Indianapolis 500 was televised in 212 countries world wide and has reached more than294 million households. It is the largest single-day sporting event in the world where people of all nationalities get together and speak race language. Now, you’re probably imagining that once opening the Indianapolis phone directory you will find names like Michael Schummacher, Louis Hamilton, Bolton Jensen, Mark Webber, Fernando Alonso or Jarno Trulli. Or maybe you will, but dialing the number you wil discover that they are probably sons of big race fans. Don’t be disappointed, it’s just not your luck.

There are many traditions surrounding the Indy 500, traditions that started long aga and are still kept to this day. In 1996, Dale Jarett won the Brickyard 400 and in order to celebrate his victory and pay homage to those who have won before him, he kissed the bricks from the Yard of Bricks. Since then, this gesture is often repeated by many Indy 500 winners.

So if you’re ever in Indiana, do not forget to visit Indianapolis and attend the Indy 500.I am sure it will be a memorable experience.
