Phone Directories Warsaw Poland

Warsaw is the capital of Poland and the 9th largest city by population in the European Union. Also known as the “phoenix city” because of its’ miraculous rise after the World War II destructions, Warsaw received in 1940 the highest military decoration for courage, entitled “Order Virtuti Militari”.

The interesting thing about the capital of Poland is that it is differently spelled in other languages. Poland has its’ unique alphabet which is based on the Latin alphabet but uses diacritics. If you are not Polish, finding something in the phone directory of Warsaw Poland can be very difficult if not practically impossible if you do not have someone guiding you.

During World War II, Warsaw was under Nazi occupation and the Jewish population of Poland was sent to the Warsaw Ghetto where later on, after a month of resistance against the Nazi, most of them found their death. By Hitler’s orders, the entire city was razed to the ground. 85 percent of Warsaw was destroyed and the city lay in ruins.

The nickname “phoenix city” symbolized its’ amazing uprising from its’ ashes and the fast progress made in the reconstruction of the city. Pope John Paul II visited Poland, which was his native country, in 1979 and 1983 and brought faith to the people that better days were to come. And so it was. Since entering the European Union in 2004, Poland’s progress has been quite impressive.

Over the years Warsaw was a destination for immigrants being known in the past as the “Old Paris” or “Second Paris”. It was the desired destination for many Europeans and it was the city with a significant number of foreign-born inhabitants. The phone directory of Warsaw, Poland was a name mixture of cultures from all over Europe.

The dominant minority in Warsaw was the Jewish one. Jewish people represented about 30 percent of the total population, percentage that changed after the World War II. Today, there are fewer Jewish people living in Poland, however the phone directory of Warsaw Poland will reveal many Jewish families whose ancestors survived the massacre and were established here.

A highly cultural city, Warsaw has a lot to offer to a new comer or to a tourist. There are over 30 major theatres in Warsaw, among these the National Theatre and Grand Theatre in Warsaw. I f you love music, you are definitely in the right city. You can go to the Polish National Opera, the National Philharmonic Hall, Teatr Wielki, the Palace of Culture and Science. Warsaw is host to one of the most famous music festivals like the International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition, the Jazz Jamboree, Warsaw Summer Jazz Days, the Mozart Festival and the Festival  of Old Music.

Warsaw is living proof that a city can rise from its’ own ashes if the heart of its’ people is in the right place and it well-deserves the name of “phoenix city”.
